What’s the Dill?

Updated: Aug 8, 2022

Botanical prints from my garden.

I love growing herbs and vegetables. I live in Fort Worth, Texas and this has been a very rough year for gardens. Thank goodness the spring garden did well, I can’t say much for what’s happening this summer. In the spring, I did have a beautiful stand of dill. I love dill. I love the way it looks, the way it smells, and I love to use it in my kitchen. Let me know if you want a tasty Black Eye Pea recipe with Herbs using dill and other herbs. We have made it several times over the summer and served it with cornbread.

I decided to use dried dill seedheads in my art. I cut several heads of dill (a head is formed when the plant flowers and eventually forms dill seeds). I placed the seedhead into a heavy book and pressed for a few days until it holds it shape. Then I used the dried seedhead to make a series of prints, I named the prints Seedhead.

I’ve been thinking of making a video of how I create a print, so many have asked me about the process.

These prints and other work can be seen in the Historic Fort Worth show called, Preservation is the Art of the City. This year’s show will be held September 8-10, but the best time to see the show is Friday, September 10, 2022 (Gallery Night) from 2-9 pm at the Woman’s Club of Fort Worth, 1316 Pennsylvania Ave. I would love for you to attend.
